The Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) will hold its fourth quarterly debate titled “Is the Hiddenness of God Evidence Against God’s Existence?” on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 10:00 AM (Los Angeles Time). Dr. Aaron Rizzieri and Dr. Ebrahim Azadegan will participate in the debate. Dr. Yaser Mirdamadi moderates this debate.
The purpose of these debates is to broaden and deepen the general public’s understanding of religion in the 21st century. The general theme of the first year of the debate series is Belief and Unbelief in a “Post-Secular Era.”
The debate will be live-streamed on Zoom and on ICCNC's YouTube Channel.
Biographies
Dr. Aaron Rizzieri is a Professor of Philosophy at the Coconino Community College, Flagstaff, Arizona. He has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Arizona State University, an M.A. in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics from Biola University, La Mirada, CA, and a B.A. Philosophy, SUNY-Buffalo. His areas of specialization are Epistemology, Bioethics, and Philosophy of Religion.
Dr. Ebrahim Azadegan is Chair of the Department of Philosophy of Science at the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He has a Ph.D. in Analytic Philosophy from the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, Tehran, Iran, an M.S. in Nuclear Physics from Amir Kabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Sharif University of Technology. His areas of interest are Philosophy of Religion, Science and Religion.
Dr. Yaser Mirdamadi is a researcher in medical ethics at the Institute of Ismaili Studies, London. In 2019, he received Ph.D. in Islamic and Middle East Studies from the University of Edinborough. He has a MA in Muslim Cultures from Aga Khan University, Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations (AKU-ISMC) London, UK, and a MA in Islamic Theology from Ferdowsi University Mashhad, Iran. Also, Dr. Mirdamadi completed a Level 3 Diploma (equivalent to a Master’s degree) in Classical Islamic studies from Hawza Ilmiyya (Islamic Seminary), Mashhad, Iran.
