A special message from our scholar in-residence, Dr. Rashid Salim
Bismillāh-er Rahmān-er Rahīm
Dear community, alsalamo ʿalaikom wa rahmatullah.
For the next two months, you will be receiving a series of short email messages from me that will convey the plans, and offer pertinent reflections on the process and contours of further building and blossoming our beloved markaz. I invite you to engage with the messages and meet me with your time, presence, and duas as we work together to grow on the path of Islam and the beautiful teachings of the Ahlul Bayt ع
Included in these efforts is the centering of our ongoing religious events, in addition to the initiation of additional programming. We are at a critical and dangerous crisis in the spiritual, political, social, and environmental state of this world. Instead of fear and reactionary postures, our commitment will continue to be informed by the illumination of the Islamic tradition as a way of life that calls for a deep commitment to ethical refinement, spiritual sincerity, justice, community, bravery, and compassion, that inspires and instills a beautiful way of loving God and living life.
Lastly, today’s message serves as a call-to-action regarding jummoʿah (Friday) prayers. I want to remind all of us of the importance and need of honoring Friday prayers. Those who are able to obtain time-off from work should do so to attend prayers, enjoy the blessings of communal prayer and a space for reflection and rejuvenation.. We begin the program at 1:05 PM and complete the prayers at 2:00 PM. Individuals who have a valid excuse that prevents them from attending can listen/watch the khutbah via our YouTube channel. It is especially recommended that families with youth watch these khutbahs and discuss the content as a family activity.
We have a large number of narrations from the Ahlul Bayt ع regarding the blessings of such participation - the bounties of which positively impact both our deen and dunyā.
I pray that Allah swt blesses all of you and all of us.
وما توفيقي الا بالله
With duas,
Rashid
