ICCNC Statement on the US and Israel Bombing Attack on Iran

On February 27, 2026, under the order of President Trump, the United States and Israel attacked Iran and initiated an unlawful war of aggression against Iran, which violates international law and the U.S. Constitution.

The U.S. attack was a clear breach of international law and Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits "the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state."

Bombing Iran without authorization from Congress constitutes a serious violation of the U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Resolution. It further marks a dangerous escalation and further destroys the frameworks of international law. No president has the legal authority to launch a military strike on a nation that poses no imminent threat to the United States without Congressional approval. Iran did not pose an immediate danger to the U.S. This action represents a clear, impeachable offense under the U.S. Constitution.

President Trump presented several false justifications for initiating the war and the strikes have been called “preemptive”. Preemptive self-defense under international law requires an imminent armed attack, of which there has been no evidence. Furthermore, these assertions contradict the fact that Iran was actively involved in the process of negotiations when the attacks were initiated, making it the second such occurrence in 9 months.

The ICCNC unequivocally condemns the illegal U.S./Israeli war of aggression on Iran, an action that risks triggering a wider war in the Middle East, further destabilizing the region, and causing the deaths of more innocent civilians.

We also pray for all the innocent lives lost and impacted by this war. The U.S./Israeli aggressors have already committed war crimes and violations of humanitarian international law principles by deliberately targeting civilian facilities, especially schools, relief centers, and residential areas. On the first day of the war, an elementary girls school was bombed, murdering at least 180 children. May God have mercy on their innocent souls. These crimes, in addition to the targeting of civilian and political leaders, show their aims are to sow chaos and anarchy across an entire country of over 90 million people.

We urge members of our community and all peace-loving Americans to contact Congress to condemn this war, request an end to hostilities, and to specifically support the Kaine-Paul Iran War Powers Resolution in the Senate and the Massie-Khanna resolution in the House.
